Yes, but you play with your life, if not a black bear. A 30-30 is much less powerful than a 300 Win Mag, and I could take a Griz several rounds of magnum rifle before it stops. To be honest with you, the fine, a black bear, but could not rely on them for brown bears and grizzly bears at the end of dead or in pieces, often both.
